Undergraduate Education
In 2008, The University of Delaware is introducing new undergraduate concentration in public horticulture that aims to prepare students for professional careers in a diverse array of public horticultural institutions.
This new program will:
- Balance an innovative curriculum with practical experience
- Link the program with public gardens and their professional staff
- Utilize public gardens as living laboratories for “real world” projects and internships
- Allow students to tailor their coursework to their career interests
- Encourage professionals to act as teachers, mentors, and project partners
- Serve as a model to be adopted by other universities and botanic gardens seeking to produce public horticulture professionals.
While providing a solid grounding in ornamental horticulture, this approved
new major within the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences focuses on: 
- Leadership
- Communications
- Experiential learning
Educational highlights include:
- The Triad Internship
- A semester long "Senior Immersive Experience," based in part at public gardens
- A course in Public Gardens Management
- An Issues in Public Horticulture seminar
